I don’t often recommend products on this blog, however, I have found one that I absolutely LOVE!
I saw this Mother – Daughter journal somewhere online before Christmas. I went back and forth about ordering it because there are 3 of them that I was considering getting it for and I wasn’t sure that I really wanted to spend the money.
I am so glad I did!! Best money ever spent. Seriously, I love it.
I was hesitant to spend the money because, even though I am all about all things journals and deep connections, I wasn’t sure that they’d really buy into the whole idea. But they absolutely have!!!
These girls have been using these journals DAILY. They ask for them if they aren’t back in their room when they get home from school. They normally don’t have them for more than a day before they are back on my nightstand. They have asked some things that the didn’t feel they could ask in person. They are totally loving them too!
This journal is meant to open up lines of communication for things that may otherwise be too awkward for the girls to discuss with me. It also has prompts that help us to get to know each other better. Things like
- What was I like when I was your age?
- What did you wish you could’ve done with your mom that you didn’t
- What about boys?
- Tell me something that even your best friend doesn’t know
- What is your greatest challenge?
There are also several free pages where they will write something to me and I can answer on the other side. There is a mother side and a daughter side.
When they write in them, there are two ribbons that they move to where ever they wrote.
When they opened them, I told them that there were no rules other than whatever was written was only between us. Everything in the book was a secret.
At one point one of them was asking something that I thought her dad should have input on, so I told her so in the journal when I answered her. She responded that on that one issue, she agreed that he needed to be involved so we went that direction and solved the problem that way.
These have been amazing so far and my hope is that they will continue to give us an avenue to discuss things that may otherwise not get discussed. They will also create a keepsake that the girls can have forever that gives them my advice and counsel.
If you are interested in getting one of these journals for yourself and your daughter, click the link below to purchase one (disclaimer: this is an affiliate link and I will make a small percentage off of this purchase. However, I really do love this product and would not recommend otherwise. It will not cost you any extra.) Also, my girls are 9, 12, and 13.
