I am an avid reader. I have been a reader all my life. I like all different kinds of books. Inspiriational, most fiction (sorry, no wizards or vampires for me), true life stories, and mysteries. Lately, my books of choice have been about the Amish people. They absolutely FACINATE me for some reason. I have always wondered what it would be like to be them and to live their life, probably stems from my facination with ‘Laura Ingalls’. They are the closest thing to her I can watch daily. They pass by my house many times daily and any time I go anywhere, we come into contact with them. This weekend one of our friends brought an Amish friend of his out hunting with us. It was all I could do to not pepper the poor guy with questions. He would’ve thought I flipped my rocker. LOL.
Believe it or not, there are several things that have inspired me in these fiction books. I admire their work ethic. It’s AMAZING. To have maintain their lifestyle in the midst of technology is a true dedication to their faith. I never understood why they do some of the things they do, but I am beginning to understand and I respect them for their decisions and their ability to stick by them. I also admire their hospitality. They readily give and expect nothing in return. Their families take care of each other and that is the expected and the norm. It just comes naturally. I admire their commitment to believing that all things happen according to God’s purpose/plan for our lives. Though I don’t agree with everything they believe, I join them in believing that all things happen for a reason and that it is all part of God’s plan for our lives. They, as do I, believe in the power of prayer.
It’s amazing to me how humbling it is to read stories about them. It makes you want to live a simpler life, at least it does me. It has made me increasingly content in my life. I don’t long for more ‘stuff’ or things that are bigger/better. True, I am building my business to gain financial freedom, but I am over wanting to have things that cause me to be in debt. I am content to live within my means and enjoy the simple, often free, things in my life. Awesome sunrises/sets, a winter forest with sunshine glistening the snow, the giggle of a toddler, a warm cup of coffee while watching the snowfall like a snow globe outside my windows, the rustle of leaves in the fall, etc. I could go on for pages….LOL. The simple things in life are truly amazing (and free)!
Are you tired of living for the next best, newer thing? Are you ready to make a change back to a simpler, more relaxing, slower paced life? It’s amazing how freeing it is to move into the comfort of being content with who you are and where you are in your life. I am excited to move my business to the next level so that I will be able to share more time with my wonderful family, but I am happy to say that for the first time, probably in my life, I am content. It’s a wonderful feeling!
